1. George, where did it all start? What got you into photography?
I’ve always loved looking at beautiful photographs and wanted to take pictures like those beautiful works. Photography felt like the perfect way to capture moments that would otherwise slip away. I took some good pictures using cameras from my family/ friends and got appreciation when posted on social media. Then I bought my first camera, Canon 1100D with kit lenses and started taking pictures.
2. What’s your vibe? How would you describe your style?
I like combination of posed and candid photos. I like capturing photos of beautiful landscapes and people. I prefer to keep the colors as natural as possible but also play with colours if the scene demands it.
3. Dream camera, unlimited budget—what would it be? Or do you already have it?
If money wasn’t an issue, I would buy more lenses and may be a Canon R5 II. But honestly I am happy with my Canon R6 and my Canon 5D mark IV which I use as a backup camera nowadays.
4. A photographer who inspires you?
There are so many great photographers who inspires me. I follow their work on social media. It's so hard to choose one but I like the works of Noelle Mirabella.
5. Any mentors or people who’ve helped you on your journey?
I’ve learned so much from other photographers who were willing to share their knowledge. I learned a lot from social media and YouTube videos. My family and friends are very supportive. But I think Rizwaana Latiff who was our midwife and president of the Multicultural Association helped me a lot and given me some opportunities to grow as a photographer.
6. Mac or PC? Favorite editing software?
I use Mac nowadays but used windows in the past ! I mostly use Lightroom for batch editing and Photoshop for more detailed edits.
7. What’s in your kit? Must-have gear?
I shoot with a Canon R6 and mix it up with primes and zooms, but my RF 28-70 is the most useful one. Then the 85mm prime is my favorite one. I also love my 70-200 lens.
8. A photo you’re really proud of?
One of my favorite shots is landscape photo that I captured from Te Mata peak a few years ago. It was a photo of the sunrise taken from the top of the peak on a cold winter day with fog filled valley. I had not seen a view like that before and I was so excited to see and capture it.
